Overview
Fishing for bream (bluegill, shellcracker/redear sunfish, redbreast sunfish, etc.) is an ideal outdoor family activity. Bream bite readily and put up a good fight, making fishing for them fun.
Most fishing tournaments are about who catches the most pounds of fish. Bobberthon is about promoting a unique and exciting event where anglers can fish for cash and prizes, but additionally the event is about adults and children having fun fishing together and increasing tourism dollars to local economies.
ECONOMIC IMPACT
This event will market Wildlife Resources Division public fishing areas as having some of Georgia’s best public fishing opportunities. It is expected that angler participation may increase as much as 20% with advertisement associated with this event, and this could equate to an additional 10,000 angler trips.
A report from the American Sportfishing Association indicates that each angler will spend on average $63 per fishing trip (Sportfishing in America, January 2008) potentially generating an additional $630,000 in retail sales.
